NHS England’s South East Regional Midwife congratulates Royal Berkshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for maintaining their ‘good’ rating for maternity services by the Care Quality Commission.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has rated maternity services run by Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust as good, following an inspection in November.

Maternity services at the Royal Berkshire Hospital were inspected as part of CQC’s national maternity services inspection programme. The programme aims to provide an up-to-date view of the quality of hospital maternity care across the country, and a better understanding of what is working well to support learning and improvement locally and nationally.

Kaye Wilson, NHS England’s South East Regional Midwife, said:I’m delighted that Royal Berkshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust’s (RBH) maternity services have retained their ‘good’ rating following their recent CQC inspection. This is testament to the amount of hard work and dedication from the clinicians and staff involved.

“Staff training, we know can be a challenge in maternity, but RBH demonstrated that their maternity staff were receiving appropriate levels of training in their relevant areas, and this is so important for patient safety.

“The other area is around risk assessing women, making sure they are directed to the appropriate services and again this was highlighted as very good.

“The final, but very important area that we must note is the engagement that they have with the women and families who use their services.

“I’m delighted to see this progress and I’m looking forward to visiting them again – congratulations everyone!”
