NHS South East smashes previous best day ever by almost 100,000 more jabs

Since celebrating its best day ever less than a week ago, the NHS in the South East vaccinated 163,909 people against Covid-19 setting a new regional record.

The latest landmark was achieved on Tuesday 21 December, and 93 per cent of the jabs administered were boosters – 152,947.

Previously the best day ever was Saturday 18 December when 154,738 Covid-19 vaccinations were given.

The total number of boosters now administered in the region is 4,357,740.

Overall, the region has now delivered more than 17.8 million Covid-19 jabs since the biggest vaccination programme in the history of the NHS began in December last year.

Jabs available at more than 350 sites across the region include 1st, 2nd and 3rd doses where required, as well as boosters, and none of this would be possible without the incredible unwavering commitment and determination of staff and volunteers.

The offer of a lifesaving Covid-19 vaccination is evergreen. Please come forward for your jab as soon as possible and as we fight the new Omicron variant the message is clear – Get Boosted Now.

This week people have been able to get their jabs at Apple Tree Hindu Temple in Crawley, a pop-up at Tesco in Hove, a walk-in clinic at Barton Surgery in Oxford and a number of new Hospital Hubs in Basingstoke, Hastings and Eastbourne, as the whole region steps up in the effort to ensure people can get boosted before Christmas.

Vaccinations have been delivered through a combination of large-scale vaccination centres, hospital hubs, GP surgeries and community pharmacies ensuring that we leave no-one behind.

The NHS is continuing to appeal to anyone able to volunteer to support the vaccination programme to come forward because you can still help. Details can be found here.

Dr Vaughan Lewis, Regional Medical Director for the South East, said: “These figures continue to show the success of the biggest immunisation programme in the history of the NHS.

“The data clearly demonstrates that getting boosted gives maximum protection against Omicron so please book your slot online as soon as possible to guarantee your vital jab.

“While we have been delivering a bumper amount of boosters in recent weeks the vaccination offer remains open and I strongly encourage anyone who has not had any of the doses they are eligible for, including first and second jabs not to delay and to book their slot.”

The best way to get your jab is to book an appointment via the National Booking Service at www.NHS.uk where new sites are being added all the time. All adults over the age of 18 are now eligible for their booster vaccination.
