eLearning Resource for Advanced Practice Supervisors
The NHS England South East Faculty for Advancing Practice has launched a comprehensive multi-professional eLearning programme to enhance supervision capabilities for those supporting developing advanced practitioners.
This free resource addresses the critical need for high-quality supervision in advanced practice development, combining academic learning with workplace capability building to ensure patient and public safety. The programme is designed for both newcomers to advanced practice supervision and experienced supervisors seeking to enhance their skills.
Programme Structure
The eLearning begins with a skills scan that allows supervisors to self-assess their capabilities and identify personalised learning needs. All participants must complete Module 1, which covers the foundations of advanced practice supervision and understanding scope of practice. Module 2 offers optional sessions including workplace learning environments, feedback techniques, critical reflection, coaching skills, and assessment methods.
All sessions are carefully mapped to the national Advanced Practice Supervisor Capabilities Framework (NHS England 2025), ensuring training aligns with established standards across different professions and settings. This structured approach aims to elevate supervisory knowledge and skills whilst promoting consistent, safe, and effective supervision practices.
Access and Implementation
The programme is hosted on the NHS Learning Hub and accessible to all healthcare professionals at: https://learninghub.nhs.uk/catalogue/advanced-practice
Employers are encouraged to coordinate access through their advanced practice leads to ensure proper governance and integration with existing supervision policies. This supports the Health and Social Care Act 2008 requirements for appropriate staff support, training, and supervision.
The resource represents a significant investment in workforce development, strengthening the foundation for delivering high-quality advanced practice across the NHS while supporting both current practitioners and future workforce sustainability.
