The latest quarterly NHS cancelled elective operations statistics produced by NHS England were released on 12^th August 2016.

NHS cancelled elective operations figures for the quarter ending 30^th  June 2016 include data for England, Regions and NHS Trusts.

The figures shown are the number of last-minute cancelled elective operations for non-clinical reasons and, of those, the number subsequently re-admitted within 28 days.

The key points from the latest release are:

• During the quarter ending 30^th June 2016, 18,838 operations were cancelled at the last minute for non-clinical reasons by NHS providers. In the same period in 2015/16, there were 16,099 cancelled operations.
• Cancelled operations during the quarter represented 0.9% of all elective activity, which is an increase to the corresponding percentage in the same period in 2015/16.
• Of these cancellations 1,575 (8.4%) of patients were not treated within 28 days of a cancellation. In the same period in 2015/16, 1,157 (7.2%) of patients were not treated within 28 days.
