Vaccine programme resources
These webpages are primarily directed at health care professionals delivering the vaccination services that we commission.
If you are a member of the public seeking information about NHS screening or immunisation programmes please go to the NHS website or speak to your GP, practice nurse or other health care professional.
The purpose of this webpage is to make information more easily accessible to primary care professionals who provide immunisation services. Comprehensive information for all national screening and immunisation programmes is available on Population screening programmes: detailed information – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) and Health Security Agency website.
The general practice vaccination and immunisation services: standards and core contractual requirements can be found here

National human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination and immunisation catch-up campaign for 2025/26
Many of you will have seen the press release confirming the national human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination and immunisation catch-up campaign for 2025/26.
General Practices are required to run one catch-up campaign per year, and it has been decided nationally that the 25/26 catch-up campaign is aimed at the unvaccinated HPV cohort. Vaccinating young people against HPV is critical to achieving the elimination of cervical and other cancers.
The campaign will run from July 2025 until March 2026.
In the East of England, we are asking GPs to focus on 18–25-year-olds. This is because 16-18 year olds will continue to be offered call/recall and catch-up in our region via the community and school age immunisation service (CSAIS), whether or not they are in education.
Detail and advice will be included in the further formal communications from national NHSE, but we recommend:
- Proactive systematic checks – practices should check all patient records are up to date.
- Target the unvaccinated – Invite those 18-25 year old unvaccinated. Males born after 01/09/06.
- Use resources available on gov.uk HPV vaccination programme – GOV.UK Campaign Resource Centre
- Offer flexible appointments – weekend/evening
- Flags – add flags on the patient record
- Unsure about vaccination history – contact CHIS NHS England — East of England » Useful contacts
- Ensure eligible individuals get the right vaccine – immunocompetent 1 dose, immunosuppressed 3 doses Human papillomavirus (HPV): the green book, chapter 18a – GOV.UK
- Make every contact count – booking, text, appointment contact
- Opportunistic checks – check other vaccine status
Funding for participation in the national campaign is included in global sum payments. Practices are also eligible for an item of service payment of £10.06, in accordance with the GP contracts, for each HPV vaccination administered.
Please remember that in the East of England, the focus will be for those 18-25 years old.

Shingles
On 1 September 2025, based on the latest advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), eligibility for the NHSE Shingles vaccination programme will change to allow all severely immunosuppressed people aged 18 years and over to receive the shingles vaccine. This is an expansion of the current severely immunosuppressed cohort, who until now became eligible from aged 50 years of age.
Please read the letter in the link above and familiarise yourself with the programme expansion.
