Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, Non-executive Director

Greater Manchester Mental Health (GMMH) NHS Foundation Trust employs over 7,000 staff and delivers services from more than 122 locations.

We provide inpatient and community-based mental health care across Bolton, the City of Manchester, Salford, Trafford, and Wigan, and specialist services across Greater Manchester, the North West and beyond.

We are currently delivering a Recovery Delivery Plan, with ambitious goals to strengthen governance, transform care, and improve outcomes. As we look to the future, your leadership on finance and performance will be vital to our success.

Greater Manchester is one of the most dynamic and diverse regions in the UK—blending thriving urban centres, outstanding countryside, and a world-renowned cultural scene. Wherever you are in the region, you’ll experience a strong sense of community and a warm northern welcome.

Our Council of Governors is seeking to appoint a Non-executive Director to join the Board of Directors at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented, values-led finance professional to help shape the future of our Trust at a pivotal time.

We are specifically looking for a candidate with substantial senior-level experience in finance, audit or strategic financial leadership, who will also Chair the Trust’s Finance and Performance Committee. You will play a key role in providing independent oversight of our financial health, performance assurance, and long-term sustainability, whilst supporting the organisation’s strategic recovery and improvement ambitions.

Our values underpin everything we do at GMMH, and successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate alignment with these values as well as with the NHS Leadership Competency Framework for Board Members.

We know that the best boards reflect the communities they serve. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with lived experience of our services and those from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities, and people with disabilities, who are under-represented in these important roles.
