Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust, Non-executive Director

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) is a values-driven organisation delivering a broad range of services to improve the health and wellbeing of people across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. Uniquely positioned as a community-based physical health and mental health provider, CPFT’s work is evenly balanced: around half of its services focus on delivering high-quality physical healthcare in community settings, supporting people to live independently and manage long-term conditions closer to home, reducing the need for hospital-based care and enhancing quality of life.

Alongside this, CPFT provides integrated mental health and specialist services for people of all ages, working in close partnership with other local providers to ensure joined-up, person-centred care. Its staff deliver support across homes, clinics, inpatient settings and schools, helping individuals and families at times of greatest need.

The Trust has a national and international reputation for research and innovation and is proud of its strong academic and clinical partnerships. It supports a broad professional base that spans the full spectrum of physical and mental health care.

The trust are looking for a Non-executive Director who will serve as the Chair of the Audit and Assurance Committee.  They will play a key role in supporting the Board to uphold the highest standards of governance, risk management and internal control. This individual will serve as a Non-Executive Director on the Trust’s Board, providing broader strategic oversight and contributing to collective decision-making across all areas of Trust business. Working as an equal member of a unitary Board, they will provide support and challenge to the Executive team, help shape strategic thinking, and promote CPFT’s values at all levels.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Chairing the Audit and Assurance Committee, ensuring it meets its obligations in relation to financial reporting, internal control, risk and compliance
  • Working closely with internal and external auditors, monitoring the implementation of audit recommendations and strengthening controls where needed
  • Promoting best practice in assurance, governance and risk, and supporting continuous improvement across the Trust
  • Contributing to the Board’s collective responsibilities, offering independent scrutiny, insight and strategic input
  • Upholding the values of CPFT in all aspects of leadership and promoting effective engagement with service users, carers, staff and the wider community
