Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Non-executive Director
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced, values-led Non-executive Director to join its Board at a critical point in our development. This is an opportunity to help shape the future of one of the largest teaching hospitals in the country, supporting the delivery of outstanding patient care, innovation and inclusive leadership.
We provide a full range of local, regional and specialist services to more than two million people across South Yorkshire and beyond. The Trust employs over 19,000 colleagues across five hospitals and its adult community service is recognised nationally for excellence in teaching, research and clinical care. Working closely with academic, clinical and system partners, the Trust is committed to improving health outcomes, reducing inequalities and developing sustainable services for the future.
As one of our Non-executive Directors, you will play a vital role in ensuring strong governance, accountability and effective oversight, including holding the Executive to account, as a member of a highly regarded Board. You will provide constructive support and challenge to Executive colleagues, helping to shape our strategic direction while ensuring that quality, safety and patient experience remain central to decision-making. You will contribute to Board discussions on performance, transformation, culture and partnership working, and will be expected to chair or serve on a Board Committee.
This is a particularly crucial time for the Trust as we continue to deliver its PROUDFuture transformation programme, supporting digital innovation, service transformation, research development and new models of integrated care in partnership with the wider South Yorkshire Integrated Care System (ICS).
We are seeking an individual who brings sound judgement, strategic insight and a collaborative approach. You may come from the NHS, public, private or voluntary sector, but you will demonstrate a strong commitment to public service, equality and inclusion, and the ability to operate at Board level.
Successful candidates will be able to:
- Provide constructive challenge and independent oversight
- Operate effectively within large, complex and highly regulated environments
- Support cultural development, and inclusive leadership
- Build effective relationships with colleagues, partners and stakeholders
- Balance strategic thinking with attention to governance and risk
- Inspire confidence, credibility and trust
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is committed to creating a Board that reflects the communities it serves. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and are particularly keen to hear from individuals who are currently underrepresented at Board level, including people from ethnic minority backgrounds, disabled people, LGBTQ+ communities, younger applicants and those with different lived and professional experiences. We are committed to ensuring an inclusive recruitment process and will provide reasonable adjustments where required.
This is a highly rewarding opportunity to contribute to an organisation that makes a profound difference to people’s lives every day. You will join a committed and ambitious Board, working together to strengthen services, support colleagues and improve outcomes for patients and communities across Sheffield and beyond.
