Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Non-executive Director x2
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting two roles, one of which will chair the Trust’s Audit Committee and are pleased that you are considering joining us at this pivotal time in our journey, and we warmly welcome your application.
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals is one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in the country, providing a full range of local, regional and specialist services to a population of over two million people across South Yorkshire and beyond. We employ more than 19,000 staff across five hospitals and adult community services, and we are proud to be a teaching and research leader, working in close partnership with our academic and clinical colleagues to enhance patient care, innovation and workforce development.
We are proud of our history and reputation for high-quality acute and specialist care, but we are equally ambitious about our future. We recognise that, like many NHS organisations, we face increasing demand, workforce challenges, and the need to transform services. We are committed to delivering outstanding care, improving patient experience, and working collaboratively across the system to deliver integrated and sustainable healthcare.
The role of Non-Executive Director is central to this mission. As a member of our Board, you will help ensure the highest standards of governance, accountability and transparency. You will provide constructive challenge and support to the Executive Directors, holding them to account for delivery of the Trust’s strategy, performance and culture. You will ensure that quality of care and patient safety remains central to everything we do, and that staff feel empowered to speak up and contribute to improvement. The specific Chair of the Audit Committee role will play a key leadership role in supporting the Board to keep the highest standards of governance, assurance and accountability.
This is a particularly important time to join us as we build on our commitment to deliver the highest quality patient care and create an environment in which our colleagues thrive. Through our PROUD Future transformation programme, we are seeking to further empower our people, promote digital innovation, support clinical transformation, improve the research infrastructure, tackle health inequalities, and develop new models of clinical care, both within our hospitals and community services, and in partnership with our colleagues across the Integrated Care System (ICS), and in line with the NHS Ten Year Plan.
Your role will be to help shape and guide a strong strategic vision – supporting the organisation to manage risk, navigate scrutiny and drive sustainable improvement.
We are seeking experienced and values-led Board leaders who are confident and collaborative. You will bring your experience, insight and judgement to support the Board in navigating complex issues and be able to chair a Board sub-committee. You will need to balance independence with collegiality and teamwork, detail with strategic perspective, and governance with innovation. Above all, you will inspire confidence – among colleagues, partners, regulators and the communities we serve.
We strongly value diversity of thought and background. Whether your experience comes from within the NHS, other public services, or the private and voluntary sectors, we are particularly interested in your ability to demonstrate integrity, resilience and a deep commitment to equality and inclusion.
This is a highly rewarding opportunity. You will be helping to guide an organisation with a profound impact on people’s lives, ensuring that our leadership is aligned with the scale and importance of our mission. You will be supported by a committed and ambitious Board, and together we will work to strengthen Sheffield Teaching Hospitals for the future.
