Sheffield Health Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust, Non-executive Director and Audit Committee Chair

Sheffield Health Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced, thoughtful and values-led individual to join its Board as a Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Audit Committee.

SHPU provides a wide range of adult mental health, learning disability, and specialist services to people in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, and beyond. This is an important time for the Trust as it continues to strengthen community-focused services, improve outcomes for service users and carers, and deliver sustainable, inclusive care for the diverse populations it serves across the communities we serve.

As a Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Audit Committee, you will play a key role in supporting the Board to keep the highest standards of governance, assurance and accountability. You will provide constructive support and challenge across areas including financial reporting, risk management, internal control and organisational performance.

Working collaboratively as part of a unitary Board, you will contribute to the development of strategy, support long-term sustainability and help ensure the Trust continues to provide safe, effective and compassionate care. You will also work closely with governors, executive colleagues and partners across the wider health and care system to support system-wide thinking and collaborative leadership.

You will bring experience of operating at Board or senior leadership level within a complex organisation, ideally within the NHS, wider public sector or a similarly regulated environment. We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who bring significant financial leadership experience, alongside a recognised financial qualification and relevant professional registration

The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgement, strategic thinking and the ability to provide constructive challenge while building positive and collaborative working relationships.

  • Strong understanding of governance, audit, risk and assurance
  • The ability to interpret complex financial information and support robust decision-making
  • Experience of leading within complex and changing environments
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to equality, inclusion and compassionate leadership
  • An understanding of partnership working across organisational boundaries

At SHPU our values shape everything we do:

  • We are respectful and kind
  • We are inclusive
  • We work together
  • We keep improving

We are committed to creating an inclusive Board which reflects the communities we serve and welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds. We particularly welcome applications from groups currently under-represented at Board level, including people from ethnic minority backgrounds, disabled people, LGBTQ+ communities and younger applicants.

The anticipated time commitment is approximately one day per week, worked flexibly across the month. The appointment is remunerated in line with NHS guidance.
