Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, Non-executive Director

We are seeking an exceptional Non-executive Director who will bring independent thinking, constructive challenge, sound judgement, and strategic insight to our Board.

This is a pivotal time to join Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust as we continue to deliver our refreshed organisational strategy, Where Excellence Meets Compassion, embed our new Operating Model, and build on the progress of our multi-year financial recovery plan. Our ambition is clear: to improve the health and wellbeing of our diverse communities by delivering outstanding, sustainable healthcare, tackling health inequalities, and harnessing innovation, research and digital transformation to shape the future of care.

You will be joining one of England’s largest and most ambitious NHS Trusts at a time of both significant challenge and considerable opportunity. Demand for our services continues to grow, alongside increasing financial pressures, yet we are making measurable progress in improving performance, embracing digital innovation through Hive, strengthening partnerships across Greater Manchester, and delivering sustainable improvement for the populations we serve.

For this appointment, we are seeking an accomplished Board-level leader with a strong financial background, gained within a large, complex organisation. As a fully qualified accountant, you will bring the credibility, expertise and judgement required to Chair the Trust’s Audit & Risk Committee, providing independent assurance on financial governance, corporate governance, internal controls and risk management across the breadth of the Trust.

We welcome applications from experienced Non-Executive Directors as well as individuals seeking their first Board appointment, provided you can demonstrate the strategic capability, an understanding of our healthcare landscape, the commercial acumen and the leadership qualities required to succeed in this role. We will provide a comprehensive induction and ongoing development to support your success.

Above all, we are looking for someone who shares our commitment to public service, embraces our values, and will ensure that high-quality, compassionate patient care remains at the heart of every decision we make.
