Enshrined in the NHS Constitution and uniting patients and staff in a shared ambition for high quality care, our values inspire us and are at the very heart of what we do:
- Working together for patients
- Respect and dignity
- Commitment to quality of care
- Improving lives
- Everyone counts
At NHS England we’ve set up a network of Values Champions. Sharing stories about how and where the NHS values live in day to day work, this is a growing movement of people across the system.
We have ambitions to get bigger and better so we’re creating an online space to work with people right across the NHS. This is where we’ll celebrate and share great examples and stories of NHS values in action. Don’t hesitate to share how our values shine through in our work: we want to hear from you about everything from a big project or a day to day activity
By sharing and showcasing examples of values in action we aim to support and develop a culture that unites NHS staff and organisations around our commitment to the NHS values and to bringing them to life.
We’re asking everyone – patients, public and staff – to submit examples of ‘values in action’ against one or more of the NHS values either through:
- a single paragraph (max 250 words) explaining the example or story with a link to the value/s it’s promoting; or
- a photo or video link to an event, occasion or team that shows ‘values in action’ through a picture, with a short caption or sentence explaining the picture or film.
Collecting examples of values in action will build our seedbank to inspire others. We will showcase as many of the great examples as possible at the Health and Care Expo 2014 and anything goes, from how staff working together for patients to innovations developed to improve lives.
Please help us to share these stories and submit your example of values in action via the email address ‘firstname.lastname@example.org’ using the tagline ‘values in action. Please also send any queries to this email address and we will be happy to get back to you.
This initiative is just one of our commitments for NHS Change Day – please see Nicola Plumb’s pledge here
