Outcome ambitions: Views sought from local commissioners

In Everyone Counts, Planning for Patients 2014/15 – 2018/19, all local NHS commissioners (Clinical Commissioning Groups and NHS England Area Teams) were asked jointly to plan for improvement in seven areas relating to improving patient outcomes.  This included setting local ‘levels of ambition’ for the outcomes commissioners planned to achieve for the local population.

Commissioning on the basis of patient outcomes means placing a greater focus on the results of the care we give to patients.  It means focusing on how well patients feel after treatment and helping them to stay well, whether suffering from physical or mental ill-health.

NHS England, in partnership with the Quality & Outcomes Working Group of the NHS Commissioning Assembly, now seek feedback on the levels of ambition process, to inform future exercises.  We are seeking views from colleagues within CCGs, Area Teams and Commissioning Support Units that were involved in the setting of levels of ambition. Please see the below link for further information. This survey should take no more than 10-15 minutes to complete.  It will help us shape further work around commissioning for outcomes, and guide how this is reflected in commissioning planning in future.
