Coming home: why treating mental health patients closer to home should be top of your agenda

Sally Eason, Transformation Partner at NHS Arden & GEM Commissioning Support Unit, previews her pop-up university workshop at Health and Care Innovation Expo 2016 on an award winning mental health repatriation programme in Coventry and Warwickshire. 

An award-winning partnership project led by NHS Arden & GEM CSU has successfully reduced reliance on out of area mental health services, improving patient care and delivering annual savings of £12million to date.

Despite the success of this programme, out of area treatment continues to be a major cause of cost and concern in the NHS, so how can we work together to share best practice and fast track change so that a greater number of patients can benefit from treatment closer to home?
