Two Advocacy Plus pilots launched in London to improve health outcomes for autistic and learning-disabled people

10/05/2022

The Learning Disabilities and Autism Programme is working with two independent providers, CASCAIDr Trading Ltd and Imagineer, to deliver two Advocacy Plus pilots across London.

For some autistic people or people with a learning disability and their families, navigating self-directed support can often be quite complex. The Advocacy Plus pilots will provide independent legal framework support to help simplify this journey and improve outcomes for clients to ensure they have access to the support they need and are entitled to.

The first pilot will focus on the Care and Treatment Review (CTR) process and will include a form of advocacy support (and legal framework expertise to the process itself), even if the individual lacks the capacity to instruct an advocate themselves or use an Independent Mental Health Advocate (IHMA).  The second pilot will manage support brokerage for people in hospital, with independent support brokers working alongside clients to help them plan to live the life of their choice.

Outcomes from the pilots are due to be reported at the end of June 2022.
