Key items discussed

NHS App

  • Updated regarding the development of the NHS App and how its work will support the delivery of the 10 Year Health Plan. Discussed the importance of agreeing where strategic decision making sits to ensure there is quick and clear alignment across the NHS. 
  • Discussed the prioritisation of features, in particular delivery of improvements patients want most from a digital service, but are technically difficult due to legacy systems across the NHS

Electronic Patient Record (EPR) productivity

  • Discussed opportunities to maximise productivity, following implementation of an EPR system, and how learning from successful and unsuccessful implementations can be used to create a blueprint.
  • Next stage of the analysis to cover level of standardisation, importance of wider business change, capabilities that need to be in place locally, impact of peripheral technologies e.g. ambient voice and the role of outcome KPIs in driving productivity realisation.

Cyber Security and Risk Committee (CSRC) Update

  • Updated regarding discussions at the recent meeting of the CSRC, including preparations for potential outages of critical IT systems, ensuring there is sufficient resource across the system and the importance of the resilience work plan.

10 Year Plan and the Spending Review

  • Informed about planned support for systems to deliver digitisation following the spending review.

Chief Digital Information Officer Operating Model update

  • Discussed optimal organisational structure deliver digital priorities for the NHS, including the level of internal resource, maintaining the connection between clinical and digital operations, the balance between the centre and the system and the appropriate structure for the Data Safe Haven.
