Meeting notes

Agenda item 1 – Introductions

Panel members were welcomed to the meeting by the Chair, who ran through the agenda.

The Chair asked panel members if there were any comments regarding meeting minutes from last meeting. Panel members had no comments, and The Chair gave approval for minutes to be published.

Introductions were made, the National Data Guardian and Communications and Engagement Manager were welcomed to the panel.

No conflicts of interest were raised by members.

Agenda item 2 – Understanding patient data – secure data environment explainer

The Head of Understanding Patient Data gave a presentation on a project from Understanding Patient Data (UPD) on what language can be used when talking about data (including for trusted research environments and secure data environments).

The presentation covered whole process: understanding the problem, a literature review, workshops with the public, stakeholder research and the final resources.

The samples included in the research were detailed, and steps taken by UPD to ensure it was a representative as possible and allowed those underrepresented to take part.

The Head of Understanding Patient Data demonstrated the resulting animation, and detailed where it had been shared and the improvements that had been made as a result.

Feedback was very positive on the animation. One member suggested a future animation could include electronic health records, as these are complicated to understand.

Agenda item 3 – Any other business (AOB)

No AOB were raised, and the chair ended the call.
