Essential organisational requirements
- maximum of two clinical teams/wards
- ensure supernumerary status of the PNE role is protected
- ensure PNEs have ongoing supervision and continual professional development (CPD) opportunities
- line managers of PNEs to have a clear understanding of the deployment of the PNE role
- unit managers to have a clear understanding of how the PNE role supports the team
- unit managers are encouraged to work in partnership with the PNEs
Key areas for providers of mental health services
- identify how you intend to support the integration of the PNE role into workforce planning and establishments
- outline a job plan for the PNE, including their protected time for CPD and restorative supervision.
- offer opportunities for the PNE to design and facilitate access to training and CPD alongside the ward/team manager
- indicate how often you will review the impact the PNE role through data collection and review. E.g., unit retention rates, unit/team turnover, unit/team sickness and absence etc.
- do you have a contingency plan if any of the PNEs become unavailable because of illness?
Data collection and reporting expectations
- protected time for PNEs to collect and report on data
- fit for purpose
- accessible data collection formats (observations, questionnaires, interviews and focus groups)
- accessible reporting formats (paper and electronic form)
Data metrics
- number of Nursing students supported in clinical practice (include individual and group sessions offered)
- number of education/development sessions offered
- number of international nurses supported in clinical practice
- number of preceptee nurses being supported in clinical practice
- number of restorative clinical supervision sessions offered (including individual supervision, post incident reviews)

- number of QI programmes involved/leading on
