Cardiac devices

A West Midlands expert clinical task and finish group was formed to develop an agreed commissioning approach across the West Midlands for device insertion to mitigate the current growth and over performance, and ensure equity of access, and to ensure all centres are compliant with NICE guidance on implantable cardioverter defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation therapy for arrhythmias and heart failure (Ta314), and the National Complex Invasive CRG Service specification. To support the data collection the Clinical Network agreed to fund the development of an online database for the West Midlands for all cardiology centres to submit, to ensure compliance with ICD clinical thresholds, reporting of outcomes measures and quality monitoring. The Clinical Network will use this data to inform Commissioners and standardise care across the region.
