North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust, Non-executive Director x2
Rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and Ofsted, North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year Urgent and Emergency Care to those in need of immediate medical treatment, and where necessary, transport to the most appropriate receiving hospital/centre. As the geographically largest Ambulance Service in the UK, our 8000 staff and volunteers in over 300 different roles serve a population of more than 7.5 million people across Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire, and part of Derbyshire. Each year we receive approximately 1.4 million 999 calls, respond to just under 1 million emergency incidents, and make more than 1.4 million patient transport journeys for those who require non-emergency transport to and from healthcare appointments. We also deliver the NHS 111 service across the region for people who need medical help or advice, handling around 1.7 million calls every year.
We are seeking two values-driven and inspiring Non-executive Directors to join our engaged and dynamic Board, led by our newly appointed Chair, Julia Mulligan. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of urgent, emergency, and planned care across the North West. Guided by our core values—working together, being at our best, and making a difference—we are committed to delivering compassionate care and improving outcomes and experiences for our people, patients, and communities. As a Non-executive Director, you will uphold the highest standards of integrity and corporate governance, provide independent challenge and support, and bring a strong commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
For one of the roles, we welcome applications from senior clinicians—nurses, allied health professionals, or paramedics—with a proven track record in patient safety and a deep understanding of clinical governance. For the second, we are seeking a senior leader with commercial or public sector strategic experience of transforming service delivery using digital technologies to modernise operations, improve efficiency and effectiveness, and manage risk.
In both appointments, we are looking for strategic leaders with Board-level or equivalent experience, gained in complex, evolving, and multi-stakeholder environments. You will hold the interests of patients and the wellbeing of our staff and communities at the heart of your leadership.
