Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, Chair

As one of the largest teaching Trusts in the country, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) serve around 10% of England’s population, with an annual income of £1.7 billion and a workforce of almost 19,000.  We are a national and international leader in specialist services, home to the UK’s largest Major Trauma Centre, and have strong research and teaching partnerships with the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and Loughborough University.

Our vision is to be outstanding in health outcomes and patient and staff experience. As a key member of the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care System, and the region’s largest employer, our role is vital to the health and wellbeing of our communities.  We are a high-profile Trust, and our reputation is critical to maintaining trust and confidence with our staff, patients and partners particularly as we anticipate the Independent Maternity Review reporting in June 2026.

Following Nick Carver’s appointment as Regional Chair for the East, we are seeking a new Chair to lead our open, committed and supportive Unitary Board. We have made significant improvements over the past four years, and you will join at a critical time as we build on our ‘People First’ strategy and work with partners to continue to integrate health and care services.

We are seeking an experienced, compassionate and resilient leader with Chair or equivalent experience in large, complex organisations. You will build credibility quickly, bring a strong understanding of healthcare and system reform, and lead with integrity and collaboration. A commitment to visibility, partnership working and high standards of governance is essential. This is a high-profile and influential role; a unique opportunity to shape the future of our services, workforce and communities.

We are an inclusive organisation and committed to building a diverse Board.  We warmly encourage applications from all backgrounds.
