Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, Non-executive Director

Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust (HWHC) has a vacancy for a Non-Executive Director. This is an exceptional opportunity to share your talents and expertise to make a positive difference to the lives of people served by the Trust.

Essential criteria

HWHC seeks a senior leader with broad strategic experience rather than a narrow functional specialism. Experience gained outside healthcare is welcomed where candidates can demonstrate success leading transformation within other complex, highly regulated or customer-focused organisations. It is important that candidates can demonstrate an understanding of the realities of transformation within the NHS, including legacy systems, financial constraints and complex stakeholder environments.

Candidates will bring:

  • Senior executive leadership experience within a large, complex organisation, alongside previous non-executive or equivalent Board-level experience
  • A substantial track record of leading or overseeing large-scale organisational transformation
  • Oversight of significant digital transformation or innovation experience, ideally including hands-on responsibility for delivering complex programmes
  • The ability to shape strategy and contribute effectively to governance, organisational performance and Board-level decision-making
  • Experience engaging and influencing across complex organisations, multiple partners and diverse stakeholder groups
  • Sound judgement about delivering transformation and innovation within constrained budgets, established systems and highly regulated environments
  • A strong commitment to Herefordshire and Worcestershire, with sufficient geographical proximity to spend meaningful time understanding services, staff and local communities.

As a future NHS leader, the successful candidates will be able to demonstrate that they meet the NHS leadership competency framework for board members (please see the candidate information pack below for the six domains). The competency domains are aligned to Our NHS People PromiseOur Leadership Way and the Seven Principles of Public Life (Nolan Principles).

The best boards are those that reflect the workforce and communities they serve.  We particularly welcome applications from women, people from local black, Asian and minority ethnic communities, and people with disabilities, who we know are all under-represented in these important roles.
