NHS England announces new chair of its Clinical Priorities Advisory Group

Sir Nick Partridge has been announced as the chair to NHS England’s Clinical Priorities Advisory Group (CPAG). Sir Nick has been interim chair of CPAG since September 2013 and after a rigorous application process and interview round at the end of 2013, Sir Nick accepted the appointment following ratification from Sir Bruce Keogh, NHS England’s Medical Director.

Sir Nick will be in post for up to three years and will provide CPAG with leadership and work alongside other members of CPAG, holding responsibility for developing recommendations on the prioritisation of national service specifications, clinical access policies and other proposals of significant service change.

As former Chief Executive Officer of the Terrence Higgins Trust and chair of INVOLVE, an advisory group promoting public involvement in NHS, public health and social care research, Sir Nick brings a wealth of experience to CPAG.

Sir Nick Partridge worked for the Terrence Higgins Trust from 1985 to 2013 and was appointed its Chief Executive in 1991. Under his leadership, the Terrence Higgins Trust grew to become the largest community-based HIV and sexual health organisation in the UK, serving more than 100,000 people every year, employing 350 staff and mobilising over 1,000 volunteers. For 30 years, Sir Nick has been a consistent voice in the media coverage of HIV/AIDS and sexual health in all its aspects from health promotion, social care and advocacy through to research and treatment issues.

Sir Nick is a Non-Executive Director of the Health and Social Care Information Centre which collects, analyses and presents national health and social care data. He is Deputy Chair of the UK Clinical Research Collaboration, which aims to establish the UK as a world leader in clinical research and was Chair of INVOLVE, which promotes patient and public involvement in NHS funded research, from 1999 to 2011.
