A qualitative study by Cotterill et al (2008) aimed to identify patient and clinician reported key questions required for a comprehensive symptom and quality of life assessment for individuals with anal incontinence.

Summary

The study concluded that the breadth of fundamental issues as identified by patients were not represented within available singular tools or measures. This international nurse-led study proposes the use of a subsequently developed comprehensive questionnaire which is now globally available based upon its findings and results. The questionnaire has subsequently been translated according to “gold standard” methodology and is being used in clinical practice and research to promote standardisation of outcome assessment.
