This document supersedes Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) guidance on senior appointments, including accountable officer published in October 2015, and should be used by CCGs and NHS England as guidance when appointing a new accountable officer (AO).

This updated guidance acknowledges the changes that have taken place within NHS England since October 2015, and updated roles and responsibilities for CCGs and NHS England when appointing new AOs.
