Lees-Deutsch and Robinson (2018) conducted a systematic review of criteria-led discharge and its impact on patient flow.

Summary

The fifteen included studies showed no increase in patient readmission or complication rates or increased lengths of stay with criteria-led discharge which the authors argue demonstrates patient safety. The authors therefore suggest that the safety, quality, and length of stay for patients discharged through criteria-led discharge are inextricably linked to the process adopted for its implementation.
