An automated mobile phone texting system called FLO was used in the study by Boath et al (2016) to provide information and support to undergraduate nurses, striving to reduce course attrition rates.

The study specifically explored how the use of automated mobile phone texts, could usefully reinforce pastoral support. Open-ended qualitative and quantitative evaluation questionnaires suggested that, an intervention such as this enhanced a sense of belonging to the university. This collaborative study with strong senior nursing research leadership, particularly focused upon the health and well-being of the participants and showed better experiences and better use of resources.
