Summary

The study sought to understand more about an observed change towards earlier choice of colostomy in one UK spinal injury centre.  Early findings suggested a paradigm shift in the way colostomy is perceived as it was no longer solely about solving bowel problems but was an active choice made to improve quality of life and gain control. The research contributes to improving patient outcomes and experiences because of increased availability of colostomy early in the patient journey.
