Exercising with a stoma

A study by Hubbard et al (2017) assert that being physically active improves people’s quality of life. However, it not known if following a structured programme can help bowel cancer and  Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) patients with their concerns related to living with a stoma.

Summary

In this study conducted in London and the Scottish Highlands, the researchers aimed to establish how many patients participate in physical activities and what activities they do. They also aimed to find out about patients, stoma nurses and physical activity specialists’ opinions about the physical activity programme. Also, to establish if there are improvements in quality of life, function fatigue and body image. This is an ongoing research with unpublished papers.
