The article reports on the process and outcomes of a systemic review, using research from across eight western countries which provides an international perspective to the review. Findings from this review provide valuable insight into ways of increasing the rate of consent to organ donation and recommend further research to explore the experiences of bereaved families who decline organ donation to ensure a more complete understanding of the factors affecting donation decisions.
