Sandall et al (2010) discussed a systematic review of midwife-led care and its contribution to the safety and quality of women’s care.

The study found women who received midwife-led care experienced better outcomes. These included being less likely to experience fetal loss before 24 weeks’ gestation, and significantly more likely to have a spontaneous vaginal birth, initiate breastfeeding, and feel in control.
