Summary

The project adopted an appreciative action research methodology, working in collaboration with the care home sector. This award winning, nursing and care staff-led research examined ‘what worked’ in the promotion of ‘voice, choice and control’ for older people who live in care homes. It highlights the key leadership roles which support creation of a culture that enables older people to experience ‘voice, choice and control’. It also describes some of the perceived obstacles staff have encountered as well as how stronger partnership-working between care homes, the community and the wider health and social care system can help overcome these.
