Data is collected daily from NHS maternity trusts on operational pressures. This includes data on the number of women with a planned induction that are delayed. A delay is defined as a wait of more than 6 hours from point of admission for induction (from home or ward) to commencement of the procedure.

The data has been converted into a rate to allow for comparability.

Data will be shared quarterly.

Summary

Trusts are asked to provide: the number of women whose commencement of induction of labour (IOL) is delayed >6 hours from point of admission for induction (from home or ward).

Number of delays is compared to number of deliveries (derived from a historic average) as reported in the Maternity Services Dataset (MSDS).

Summary

Further details of how the number of Maternity Services Dataset deliveries are derived, plus additional information on metric construction.
