Bowers et al (2015) focused on caring for service users whose actions may threaten safety (conflict) in acute psychiatric wards in and around London and staff efforts to avert or minimise harm.

Summary

This multidisciplinary trial in collaboration with a service user research group was led by a professor of nursing and involved 31 randomly chosen wards at 15 randomly chosen hospitals. The Safewards model was used as the intervention in the study. The trial identified how the intervention group showed decreased conflict, better patient experience levels and significant release of staff time for more positive and productive activities.
