This document seeks to provide more clarity on the role of a maternity services support worker (MSSW) and insight on some of the misconceptions around the MSSW role that may prevent a potential candidate from applying, despite being a perfect fit.

Contributions have been provided by MSSWs who are currently in post and individuals who work closely with MSSWs, including clinical educators. Insight has also been provided by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) which was obtained from prospective candidates.
