East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust, Non-executive Director (clinical)
The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) is one of the largest ambulance services in the UK, serving a population of around 6.2m people across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk, and Cambridgeshire. With over 5,000 staff and 1,200 dedicated volunteers, we provide 24/7 emergency and urgent care services, as well as non-emergency patient transport, to communities that range from bustling urban areas to tranquil rural retreats. We are an organisation that touches lives every day, and we are committed to delivering outstanding care, fostering innovation, and building a sustainable future.
We are seeking a Non-Executive Director (NED) from a clinical background to join our Board at a pivotal time in our journey. This is a significant opportunity to play a key role in shaping the Trust’s future, ensuring the highest standards of governance, and supporting our ambition to deliver exceptional care to the communities we serve. As a NED, you will bring your expertise, independent perspective, and constructive challenge to help us achieve our strategic goals and continue our journey of improvement.
We are particularly interested in candidates with strong clinical, quality, and patient safety expertise, gained from medical, nursing, or allied disciplines at a senior level. Your insights will be invaluable as we work to enhance patient outcomes, foster a culture of innovation, and address health inequalities across our region. You will work closely with the unitary board to provide oversight, support, and challenge, ensuring we deliver on our ambitions while maintaining robust governance and sustainability.
This role affords the opportunity to make a tangible difference. You will help us shape our new 2025–2030 strategy, which focuses on four key missions: delivering outstanding care for our patients, building strong partnerships, investing in our people, and ensuring productivity and sustainability. You will also play a vital role in promoting EDI, ensuring our services meet the needs of all the communities we serve.
We are looking for a NED who shares our values and mission, and wherever you have gained your clinical experience, you will demonstrate a genuine commitment to patients and the promotion of excellent outcomes. Whether you come from a clinical, academic, regulatory, or research background, your transferable skills and fresh perspective will be highly valued. Above all, we are looking for someone who is passionate about improving health and care services and who is committed to making a positive impact on the lives of others.
We are particularly keen to hear from women, people from minority ethnic communities, and disabled people. This is a significant and impactful Board opportunity, and if your values and ambition match ours and the opportunity to join our Board attracts you, then we very much look forward to hearing from you.
Applicants should ideally live in or have connections with the area served by the Trust.
As a future NHS leader, the successful candidates will be able to demonstrate that they meet the NHS leadership competency framework for board members (please see the candidate information pack below for the six domains). The competency domains are aligned to Our NHS People Promise, Our Leadership Way and the Seven Principles of Public Life (Nolan Principles).
The best boards are those that reflect the workforce and communities they serve. We particularly welcome applications from women, people from local black, Asian and minority ethnic communities, and people with disabilities, who we know are all under-represented in these important roles.
