Darshana Thapa, Dental nurse 

Darshana is a dental nurse working at Rodericks Dental Partners (Broomhill Practice, Sheffield branch), one of the Urgent Care Services who provide urgent dental services across Yorkshire & Humber area over the Christmas and New Year period.

Why is your role required to work over Christmas?
Dental emergencies don’t take a holiday! Toothaches, due to various reasons, can occur at any time, causing pain and distress. All dentists are required to work with another appropriately trained staff member so as a dental nurse, I support them when treating patients all year round.

Why do you like working over Christmas?
Working on Christmas Day allows me to make a real difference to people in need. The clinic has a unique atmosphere, with staff and patients alike appreciating the importance of our care during the holidays. It’s really rewarding to help alleviate someone’s pain and allow them to enjoy their Christmas.

What can patients/the public do to help you?
We appreciate patients who understand the nature of emergency care. Being patient and kind goes a long way, especially during busy periods.

What service do you provide over Christmas and why is it important?
We provide urgent dental care. Our emergency dental service ensures that patients have access to urgent care during the festive period when regular dental practices are closed.
This service is crucial because dental pain can be excruciating and potentially lead to more serious health issues if left untreated. We try our best so that people/patients don’t have to suffer through the holidays without access to professional care.
