Molly MacDonald, Registered Mental Health Nurse at Acute Inpatients at St George’s Park Hospital, Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust.
“I’m a Specialist Nurse covering across the acute pathway, and our wards look after some of the most unwell patients across the North East and Cumbria, often in some really challenging circumstances. I will be supporting teams with the run-up to Christmas, planning leave home with loved ones and supporting the nursing team with the planning of the celebrations for the day.
For me working Christmas has been and always will be an absolute privilege. I often feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to look after those who are too unwell to go home and require hospital care and treatment. The day itself is like no other – the sense of celebration, meaning and community brings everyone together. There are Christmas jumpers, presents, games, table decorations, music and Christmas films. The day is filled with joy and laughter, and where possible include any carers and family who might want to join in.
I would like to wish a Merry Christmas to the Support Workers and Nurses who are working over Christmas to ensure that our patients’ treatment continues over the holiday period. I will always be inspired by the work you do and thankful for your dedication to our patients. And to our patients – I hope you manage to have some time with your loved ones, and you enjoy the Christmas celebrations.”
