Submitting evidence for the LGBT+ health evidence review
We invite submissions of data, research, evaluations and surveys to support the LGBT+ health evidence review. These will complement our literature review and data analyses.
We welcome submissions from academics, clinicians, public health professionals, local authorities, service providers, voluntary sector and other organisations.
To submit evidence, please complete this MS Forms survey.
If you submit evidence that you subsequently want to withdraw, please contact england.LGBTEvidenceReview@nhs.net.
The evidence submission process will close on Sunday 31 August 2025.
Scope of submissions
We are especially interested in submissions focused on:
- barriers to healthcare for LGBT+ people
- inequalities in access, experience and outcomes
- evaluated solutions and best practice
Examples of relevant data and evidence:
- unpublished research (for example, theses and dissertations, internal reports, journal submissions which are pending publication)
- service evaluations, including process, impact and cost-benefit analyses
- interim analyses of work
- surveys
- evaluated evidence of best practice
- qualitative research studies (for example, focus groups and ethnographic research)
We are prioritising recent data and evidence (no more than 10 years old).
Our focus is data and evidence on people aged 16+, although we will consider data for those aged 13 to 15, where available (for example, mental health, sexual and reproductive health and HIV).
We are particularly interested in work that aligns with the Darzi review’s 3 core shifts:
- sickness to prevention
- hospital to community
- analogue to digital
While we will continue to use the LGBT+ acronym, we recognise that the LGBT+ community is diverse and intersectional, reflecting gender diversity and a number of minority sexual orientations.
We are therefore keen to focus on and compare the inequalities, experiences and needs of gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men; lesbians; bisexual people; people with differences of sexual development (intersex people); trans, non-binary and gender diverse people.
We also want to reflect intersectional experience, where possible (for example, that of older or younger LGBT+ people; LGBT+ people with disabilities, learning difficulties or neurodiversity; and LGBT+ people from minority ethnic groups.)
Out of scope:
- personal stories or testimonies
- data or evidence on people under 13
- evidence related to specialist gender services for adults or children and young people
- evidence on experience of social care services.
The review will exclude any areas that have recently been reviewed, are currently under review, or are scheduled for review in the near future.
This includes specialist gender identity services for children and young people, as the NHS is still implementing the Cass Review recommendations; specialist gender identity services for adults, which are currently being reviewed by Dr David Levy; and adult social care, which is being reviewed by Baroness Casey.
Although the provision of specialist gender identity services will be out of scope for this work, we will seek data and evidence on how to improve general physical and mental healthcare experiences and outcomes of trans and non-binary people, especially those on waiting lists for specialist services.
Please do not submit any personally identifiable data. Please see the Privacy notice section of this website for more information.
As part of the submission process, you will be asked to confirm that you give permission for your evidence to be published in the final report, its supporting documents or in subsequent policy development by the Department of Health and Social Care and relevant public bodies.
Any personally identifiable data that is shared with us will be immediately deleted and you will be asked to anonymise and re-submit the data.
If you have any questions about the evidence submission please contact: england.LGBTEvidenceReview@nhs.net.
