You have been directed to this page because you are on a waiting list for an operation and have been identified by your hospital as someone who would benefit from participating in the NHS Digital Weight Management Programme.

This trial has been designed to provide you with advice on keeping healthy and active whilst you wait for your surgery.

The NHS Digital Weight Management Programme is a free 12-week programme that can be completed from your smartphone or other internet enabled device.

It can be hard to keep healthy and active, but this free programme can help you develop healthier eating habits, be more active and lose weight. As an online plan, it can be completed anywhere in your own time.

Each plan provides recipes and nutrition advice, wellbeing support and tips to boost activity levels. The NHS is working with some well-known weight-management organisations like Liva, MoreLife, Oviva, Second Nature, Slimming World and Xyla Health & Wellbeing to deliver this.

People are usually referred to the programme by their GP practice or local pharmacist however we are now trialling referrals from some hospitals. This includes:

  • Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Lancashire
  • Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in Yorkshire
  • James Paget University Hospital in Norfolk
  • University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust in Stoke
  • The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust in South Yorkshire
  • Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust in Reading
  • Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust in Nottinghamshire
  • Somerset NHS Foundation Trust in Taunton
  • St Georges University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Tooting, London
  • Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust in Torquay

About the NHS Digital Weight Management Programme

We will make losing weight feel easier by supporting you to build healthier habits that help you eat, sleep, and feel better. We are here to support you in gaining health, not just losing weight.

There has never been a better time to look after your health and wellbeing. Eating well and being active could improve your health before your operation and help you recover quicker afterwards.

The programme will help you to achieve a healthier balanced diet by helping to increase the intake of fibre, fruit and vegetables and oily fish, and decreasing your intake of saturated fat, sugar and salt.

Taking part in this programme will not impact your place on your waiting list and will not be a barrier to you receiving your intended surgery. If you are offered your surgery before the programme has ended, you can leave the programme if you want to.

If you have any questions before getting referred onto the programme, please speak to your hospital contact.
