Community care – Sussex

“My patients are pleased to see us out on the bikes. They want to support a healthy environment for the baby they’ve just brought into the world.”

Polly is a Health Visitor in the Healthy Child Programme at Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust, and a huge advocate of electric-bikes, which she uses on her home visits to new parents.

Carbon fuelled travel can have a significant impact on health and the environment. Sussex Community puts their travel contribution close to 5.5% of their carbon footprint. Much like other community trusts around the country, seeing patients in their homes is a necessary part of their work.

Covering around 8,000 miles to date, the three e-bikes used by the team has allowed staff in urban areas to reduce time spent in traffic jams and looking for parking, as well as promoting improved staff, patient and community health and wellbeing.
