Barnsley Community Diagnostic Centre

Staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of health professionals, Barnsley Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) provides NHS testing and screening services including blood tests, non-obstetric ultrasounds, breast screening, X-rays and bone density scans.

Located in the town centre’s Glass Works shopping centre, the CDC opened three years ago (April 2022) and enables patients to attend scans and blood tests in a more relaxed environment. As well as promoting the early detection of disease, the CDC eases pressure on hospital and GP services within Barnsley borough.

Barnsley Community Diagnostic Centre, situated in the town's Glass Works shopping centreBarnsley CDC has a fresh and modern environment which incorporates energy efficient technologies and significantly improves patient and staff experiences. The Glass Works itself is well served by public transport and has ample car parking, with EV charging points. This accessibility encourages the use of public transport and reduces reliance on personal vehicles, cutting down on greenhouse gas emissions.

Barnsley CDC is part of wider NHS plans to reduce waiting times for routine procedures and help diagnose life-threatening conditions, such as cancer, earlier. So far this year, the centre has supported the health of local people by providing more than 9,000 breast screening appointments, 14,500 ultrasound tests, 30,500 X-rays, 30,000 blood tests, plus other checks, tests and scans.

Patients attending Barnsley CDC require a confirmed appointment following referral by their GP or other clinician, or a screening invitation letter. Learn more.
