National Data Submission Portal
What is the National Data Submission Portal?
The National Data Submission Portal (NDSP) is a new secure platform for submitting data to NHS England. It is designed to gradually replace older NHS England data collection systems, providing a single, consistent, and secure place for organisations to submit required data. It is being delivered through the National Data Integration Tenant (NDIT) to ensure a secure, accessible, and consistent data submission experience.
This approach is fully aligned with the ongoing ambitions of Data Federation through the deployment of NHS Federated Data Platform (FDP) tenants and integrating local data into the NHS canonical data model (CDM), supporting a unified data infrastructure and reducing duplication of effort across multiple systems.
Where local tenants are in place, the ambition is to minimise burden on data submitters by allowing them to submit their data directly from their local FDP tenants. Where that isn’t possible, the NDSP provides a lower-burden data submission portal that data submitters can use.
Who is this portal for?
The NDSP is designed for anyone involved in submitting or managing national data collections, including
- NHS trusts
- integrated care boards
- community and mental health providers
- other organisations who submit national data returns
The first data collection to be available on the NDSP will be the Diagnostic Imaging Data Set (DIDS) version 2.0, scheduled to launch in April 2026.
Key features and functions
- Users can submit data either by uploading files directly through the portal or via an application programming interface.
- The portal provides consistent validation feedback for all submissions, regardless of the method used.
- In the future, additional submission options will be available, including file transfer (MESH) and webform entry (where supported).
- Collection managers and local administrators can use the portal to monitor, manage, and support their data collections and users from a single interface, making for a simpler and more streamlined experience.
Benefits
The NDSP brings several improvements for both data submitters and collection managers and ultimately for patients.
One portal, multiple collections
As more data collections are added, submitters can use a single portal for all submissions, eliminating the need to log in to different systems for each collection.
Consistent and clear data validation
NDSP uses a central validation engine with reusable rules and a common structure. This approach avoids duplication and inconsistency across collections, supporting the NHS data quality strategy.
Simplified collection management
Collection managers and administrators benefit from a unified tool to manage and update all supported collections and user permissions.
Strengthening security and access control
Permission settings determine whether users can manage, view, or submit data, streamlining administration and improving data security.
Guidance for using the portal
Step-by-step instructions on how to use the portal, including how to request access, submit data, and view validation feedback, are temporarily hosted on The Futures collaboration platform.
You’ll need to register for a free Futures collaboration platform account to view this guidance.
Permanent guidance will be published on this webpage ahead of launch.
