London Workforce Race Strategy – Programmes and Initiatives
We are working with London’s systems to expand the vision of inclusion and belonging across the health and care landscape.

Our programmes and initiatives
London Core Managers Programme
The London Core Managers Programme is a free online self-directed training for all line managers and supervisors who want to develop insight, skills and confidence to build cultures of compassion, inclusion and belonging for their diverse workforces.
EDI Innovations
In October 2022, all London Trusts and ICB-ICSs were invited to submit bids to fund EDI Innovation projects. 16 bids were approved supporting a variety of projects aligning with LWRS recommendations.
WRES Experts Programme
The WRES Experts Programme provides training and informs individuals across London on the Workforce Race Equality Standard, to support their organisations with cultural transformation and improving equality.
London Anti-Racism Project
The London Anti-Racism Project was founded on co-design to evolve current LWRS recommendations, support GLA objectives and deliver on the EDI Improvement Plan High Impact Actions – through an anti-racist approach.
London Sexual Safety Bitesize Learning [coming soon]
The London Sexual Safety Bitesize Learning is a free collection of 5-minute videos and quick-read information sheets to help anyone working in healthcare understand key sexual safety issues in the workplace. Commissioned as part of the Once4London Equity Initiatives, the resources cover all sectors and levels of healthcare.
London De-bias Recruitment Toolkit
The London De-bias Recruitment Toolkit is an interactive tool which launched in July 2021. This provides a structure to support users in identifying where bias might exist, and how it can be eliminated at each stage of the recruitment and selection process.
WRES in Primary Care
The London Workforce Race Equality Strategy in Primary Care in Primary Care supports the London Primary Care Team with the development of a bespoke Workforce Race Equality Strategy modelled on the London Workforce Race Strategy, that was launched in March 2023.

Calibre Leadership Programme
The Calibre Leadership Programme empowers staff with disabilities with methods to increase their perception of themselves as leaders and constructively challenge the norms in the workplace.
Disability Positive Toolkit
The Disability Positive Toolkit launched in November 2021 and provides guidance for managers and colleagues.
White Allies Programme
The White Allies Programme aids white senior leaders in developing their understanding and practice of anti-racism in leadership. Designed and developed alongside equalities and human rights charity, BRAP.
International Medical Graduates
The International Medical Graduates minimum standards and provides direction on welcoming, valuing and supporting IMGs, as they transition from student status into their roles in the NHS.
Active Bystander Training
Active Bystander Training is delivered in partnership with NHS England London Equality and Inclusion Programme and The Active Bystander Training Company. The training aims to empower staff across the NHS community in London to challenge poor behaviours that may have become normalised over time, and bring about change through the reinforcement of messages defining the boundaries of unacceptable behaviour.
EDI Insights & Analytics
The Equality & Inclusion team developed an EDI dashboard which supports the analysis of the WRES, WDES and other data, to help us understand trends and identify priorities for London. To access the EDI dashboard please contact London.RaceStrategy@nhs.net.
LWRS Evaluation
Evaluation has underpinned all the work that has been undertaken by the London Equality & Inclusion Team in its implementation of the 10-year London Workforce Race Strategy.
