Mental health

Cheshire and Merseyside covers nine Local Authority areas which have a population of approximately 2.5 million (ONS 2012) overall and an area of 1,155 square miles. It has three mental health providers: Mersey Care NHS Trust, 5Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, as well as Voluntary sector organisations providing mental health services and active service user groups.

What we are trying to achieve

  • To manage acute crisis mental health episodes in a timely responsive manner that meets the needs of the service users and their carers and families.
  • To build a person centred, integrated 24/7 pathway for people with a range of depressive symptoms – from mild depression through to severe depression and suicidal thoughts, with clear measurable, beneficial, qualitative and quantitative outcomes.
  • To highlight and drive forward the ‘Parity of Esteem’ agenda which requires services to respond to mental health disorders on a par with physical disorders, using the most appropriate best practice guidance for the population
  • To work with people with learning disabilities to enable them to  access mental health services and have their needs met at the right time, in the right place and the right care
