Greener NHS
In 2020, the NHS became the world’s first health service to commit to reaching net zero carbon.
We have set two targets:
- For the emissions we control directly (the NHS Carbon Footprint), we will reach net zero by 2040, with an ambition to reach an 80% reduction by 2028 to 2032.
- For the emissions we can influence (our NHS Carbon Footprint Plus), we will reach net zero by 2045, with an ambition to reach an 80% reduction by 2036 to 2039.
Following this ambition, NHS organisations across the North West have been working to translate national ambition into local action – through the development of green plans.
Within these pages you can find links to the green plans from each system in the North West, along with plans for all NHS trusts in the region.
You can also find case studies from different parts of the region on schemes and plans to achieve the goal.
