Evaluating benefits

In accordance with established best practice for large government projects, we have commissioned a team of independent experts to conduct an evaluation of the NHS Federated Data Platform (FDP).

This will help evidence the impact of the investment and complement NHS England’s benefits management work, focused on planning, owning and driving the realisation of improvements and changes anticipated in the business case.

Further information on the evaluation plan for the NHS FDP is available via the Imperial College London website.

NHS England is committed to making publicly available – and regularly updating – as much information as we have on the uptake and benefits of the NHS FDP observed so far.

Any data or information we publish will seek – in full accordance with the Standards of the Code of Practice for Statistics, the Civil Service Code, as well as the NHS England constitution and values – to fulfil our commitments to quality, transparency and impartiality.

The Office for Statistics Regulation (OSR) has acknowledged the work done by NHS England to provide context on the uptake and benefits of the NHS FDP and the additional detail on methods underlying this data on our website.

We will continue to provide updates on these statistics quarterly, drawing attention to any changes in the metrics’ calculations.

OSR identified further steps to ensure the way benefits are communicated is reflective of the underlying data and methods which we are committed to.

The full statement by the OSR can be accessed via the OSR website.
