Case studies

Patients and the public are getting involved across the NHS and helping to change services for the better. This is happening at both a local and national level, as healthcare professionals, commissioners and service-users work together to improve services for the communities who use them. We want to share good practice and you can see some of the many examples out there in the sections on the left.

There are some excellent examples of patient and public participation in the health service and we asked some of the organisations doing good work to share their top tips for involvement. Here is what they said:

  • Spend time nurturing relationships with people.
  • Work across the whole of the health and social care sector, including voluntary and community groups.
  • Get together a working group with the right people, who can make things happen.
  • Always feedback to patients and the public and engage with them on their terms.
  • Get buy-in from your organisation’s leaders and embed involvement in your governance.

If the examples in this section have inspired you to find out how you could get involved, you can find out how to do this in the how to get involved section.
