NHS vaccination information
Welcome to our North West NHS vaccination information page where you can find the latest information on vaccines, eligibility and the latest developments in the vaccination programmes.
Winter 2024 vaccine (COVID-19 and flu) programme:
- Adults aged 65 and over, residents of care homes for older adults and those with underlying health conditions aged 6 months to 64 years will be eligible for flu and COVID-19 vaccinations.
- COVID-19 and flu vaccines will be offered to frontline health and social care staff, with staff in care homes for older adults being offered the COVID-19 jab.
- Flu vaccinations for school-aged children will start when the new school year begins in September, to help stop the virus spreading.
- Pregnant women can also get their COVID-19 and flu jabs from 1 September.
- From 3 October, flu and COVID-19 vaccinations will be available for other eligible groups.
- For those adults eligible for both, the NHS will make flu and COVID-19 jabs available at the same time where possible, giving the option to get protection from both viruses in one visit.
- NBS (National Booking Service) will open on 23 September for bookings from October onwards, people will be able to book both vaccines on it, or people can also book with their GP practice or community pharmacy.
Measles and MMR vaccines:
- People aged 16-25 who’ve missed one or both doses are being encouraged to come forward,
- A number of pharmacies across the North West are able to offer MMR vaccines to eligible children and young people aged 5 to 25 who have missed one or both doses of the vaccine previously.
RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) vaccination:
- A vaccine to help protect against RSV will be available on the NHS from 1 September 2024.
- You’ll be able to get the vaccine if:

- you’re aged 75 to 79
- you’re 28 weeks pregnant or more – this will help protect your baby for the first few months after they’re born
- If you’re aged 75 to 79, your GP surgery will contact you about getting vaccinated. Please wait to be contacted.
- From September, you can speak to your maternity service or GP surgery about getting your RSV vaccination if you’re 28 weeks pregnant or more.
