North West Inclusive Pharmacy Practice (IPP) Toolkit

Tackling Inequalities in Pharmacy: From Principles to Practice

We know that persistent health inequalities and workforce disparities impact patient outcomes and staff wellbeing. Pharmacy leaders are increasingly being called upon to lead inclusive, equitable approaches – but turning intent into action remains a challenge.

The Pharmacy Workforce Race Equality Standard (PWRES) report highlights underrepresentation of Black, Asian, and minority ethnic staff in senior roles, and ongoing experiences of discrimination and limited progression opportunities.

These findings reinforce the need for practical, system-wide action—which the North West Inclusive Pharmacy Practice (IPP) Toolkit is designed to support.

Developed by senior pharmacy leaders, for senior pharmacy leaders, this regionally grounded resource offers a structured, practical framework to help teams understand, plan, and embed inclusive principles into all aspects of pharmacy leadership, workforce development, and service delivery.

More than just a document, the toolkit is an implementation resource designed to:

  • Support organisations, including Trusts’, in delivering their priorities on equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Enable meaningful action through structured guidance, real-world examples, and tools for local adaptation.
  • Build diverse, thriving pharmacy teams across the region.

To aid implementation, the toolkit includes an Excel-based Progress Tracker, designed to help you identify areas of current success, potential quick wins, and longer-term priorities.

Each initiative within the five core principles is mapped to an indicative timeline (adaptable to local context and strategic goals).

We hope the toolkit supports you on your journey to driving inclusive excellence in pharmacy across the North West.
