Involving parents/carers/patients in design and co-production

What role can parents and carers play in improving the safety and quality for deteriorating children? There are three important ways this can be achieved, through shared decision making in clinical consultation, in the design and commissioning of health services and by evaluating the care they have received.

These resources can be used to work in partnership together for and with parents to aid with early detection of the deteriorating child.

These two short films have been created for parents, and for staff supporting and empowering parents and families, with the message that the life-time of knowledge parents have of their children may enable them to spot the signs of deterioration in their child first and aims to encourage parents and families to speak up – “If you see something, say something”.
